It’s a sobering reality to live within, but also not unfamiliar. I’ve been here before—many of us have—and the understanding you articulate here is one to be shared with those who remain befuddled, crying, “But why would Christians vote for a man like Trump?”
Spot on Christa! In the past 35 years, missionary kid survivors of abuse in evangelical missions around the world have experienced the very same dynamics you report here. where abusers (mostly male) are not held accountable due to the patriarchal, authoritarian culture/system and bad theology.
I get so depressed when I think people who identify as Christians has brought this affliction upon us. Have they learned nothing from the Bible? What happened to Israel when they demanded a king and a kingdom. It didn’t last and it didn’t end well. We’ve seen this movie before.
Although it appears by the numbers that a surprising percentage of white NON-Evangelical Christians also believe he’s doing ok. Add them all together and it appears the vast majority of Christians are for him. Except perhaps the Hispanic Catholic Liberation theology-inculcated Christians. That’s where the white non-Evangelical Christians should be!
